Modern hair transplantation of individual hairs (follicular transplantation) is the culmination of more than thirty years of research in hair transplantation surgery. Long gone are the plug grafts, which created a doll’s hair appearance. With today’s modern techniques individual hairs are transplanted creating a completely natural appearance.

Hair transplants work by relocation hair from areas where the hair is thicker (eg. Back of scalp), to areas where it is thinner, such as the front of the scalp. The hair from the back of the scalp will continue growing as it would as if it was in its original position. The transplanted hair is therefore permanent.

Under local anesthesia a thin strip of skin bearing hair is removed from the back of the scalp and the wound is closed. The donor hair is then expertly dissected under a microscope into individual hairs, which are planted in the balding areas, again under local anesthesia.

Careful planning occurs before the operation to determine how many grafts are necessary and where they can be placed to achieve the best possible appearance.

FAQ

Do Hair Transplants look natural?
With magnification and much improved techniques, it is easy to get extremely natural looking results.  We can now achieve this with the transplantations of micro follicular units.

What is involved with Hair Transplants?
Hair transplants are performed in a day surgery, using twilight sedation. You are relaxed and comfortable during the whole procedure. A strip of skin with hair is removed from the back of the scalp and then the area is closed by the surgeon. The process of dissection and implantation then takes place for the majority of the day. Once the procedure is complete, you are able to return home and relax. Our staff will only be a phone call away if you have any concerns throughout the evening.

How many hairs are transplanted per session?
Anywhere between 500-4000 hairs can be transplanted per session.

When can I return to work after my procedure?
You generally will feel well enough to return to work in a couple of days. The scabs on the operated area will take a week to disappear and the transplant will not be obvious to other people.

Is there a risk of infection?
This is very unlikely and unusual unless post operative instructions and care have not been adhered to. In some cases antibiotics are given to the patients as a preventative measure.

Will I have any visible scars?
This is rare as the scalp heals extremely well.

Will the transplant affect my existing hair?
After your procedure, some clients may experience telogen, this is temporary hair loss of your existing hair due to the shock of the transplant on your scalp. Don’t be worried! This is normal and the hair will always grow back.

Precautions
Hair transplants do not prevent further thinning of the rest of your hair. As the hairline continues to recede you may require further treatment to maintain the hairline. To prevent further thinning of existing hair as well as promoting new growth Bioscor advises clients to join our highly effective medical natural hair regrowth program. Our consultants will discuss this in more detail with you.

Note: Hair transplant is also available for the eyebrow and eyelash.
